My 1st solo album (well, the first proper digital one anyway!)…

It’s strange to think that when I made this album, I’d decided this was going to be the only one I’d ever do! Why did I think that? I have no idea!

What I wanted to do was to make one definitive album featuring all of my best songs (at the time!) and then, once I’d gotten that out of my system, go off and do other creative projects…

But obviously you can’t turn this stuff off like a tap! Hence why I’ve continued from that day to this making album after album.

The reaction to this collection of songs (when I first released it) fascinated me. Younger people loved half the album, but weren’t so keen on the other half. Older people loved the half that the younger ones didn’t, but disliked the half that they did! And there are two songs on here that I got enormous acclaim for…yet if I’d had to cut the album from 20 songs down to 18, those two songs would have been the first to go!! It was from then onwards that I realised a ‘Best Of’ album is a ridiculous concept, as all music (and indeed all art) is totally subjective.

And maybe that’s why I left the tap on...
